Short Bio

DARIA DOROSH is an artist, educator, and researcher with SMARTlab, UCD Dublin, where she completed her PhD in 2007. She works in the intersection of art, fashion, and new media to identify emergent patterns that show how these fields are converging on the body. She studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology, NY, and at the Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture, NY, and taught fashion design at FIT and fine art at Parsons School of Design, NY. She is a founding artist and member of A.I.R. Gallery, NY, where she has been exhibiting regularly since 1972. Her large-scale digital prints, the Fashion Monsters and Narcissus series, address the commodification of beauty and its adverse impact on the environment and human consciousness. in 2016, she collaborated with Jose Marinez and Gayil Nalls to present While You were Texting at PS 109, NY, to examine the connection between labor and environmental issues with an art, science, and technology exhibition and panel presentation. In 2010 she launched Fashion Lab in Process, LLC, presenting up-cycled garments by young designers at the American Folk Art Museum’s branch gallery, NY. For Fashion Week 2011, she organized Re-made in America, a roundtable discussion on fashion, sustainability and technology. In 2003 she collaborated with Steve DiPaola, at Simon Fraser University, BC, Canada and with Bruce Damer and Galen Brandt at digitalspace.com to produce Ratava’s Line for FIT, an online game space with a fashion narrative and original fashion designs worn by avatars in the game, a collaboration between her FIT fashion students and media students at SFU.
