ACM SIGGRAPH's DIGITAL ARTS COMMUNITY (DAC)
A.I.R. Gallery invites women artists residing in the New York City area to apply for New York Membership. Founded in 1972, Artists in Residence, Inc. (A.I.R.) is the first artist-run, not-for-profit gallery for women in the country. The twenty-two New York City artist members are represented by and also are the board of directors. While the gallery has a professional staff, the NYC artists define the scope and activities of the organization and the direction of their own careers. A.I.R. takes no more than 20% commission on any work sold directly through the gallery and does not place any restrictions on an artist's affiliations with other galleries. One of A.I.R. Gallery's outreach initiatives has been to create a national membership of women artists from across the country. These women are mid-career professional artists or emerging artists showing exceptional talent. This group of women artists forms a national network of support and opportunity for each other and for the New York-based member artists. A.I.R.'s National Members are 20 women who live outside of New York City. They pay yearly dues and are represented on the website, in the flat files, and in binders at A.I.R. Gallery. Every member in the program exhibits annually in a curated group show made up of a subgroup of the total membership. National Members can show in Gallery II & III during their tenure in the program. The membership is a two-year commitment. The artist may choose to continue for an additional two-year term after which she must reapply.
